About Paulo Gonçalves
Paulo Gonçalves was a Portuguese rally motorcycle rider. He debuted in the Dakar Rally race in 2006. He competed in 13 versions of the competition and was the runner-up in the 2015 edition. He joined the Hero Motocorp team in 2020, but had already partnered with Honda, Husqvarna Motorcycles, and KTM.
In 2013, he won the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship. The Portuguese racer participated in different races across the world including Asia, Africa, and South America.
Tragedy
Paulo was found unconscious after a fall during the stage seven of the 2020 Dakar Rally. On January 12 2020, he was pronounced dead in a hospital in Layla, Saudi Arabia.

He was nicknamed the “Speedy” due to his love for speed.
