About Peaches (Merrill Nisker)
Merrill Nisker, professionally known as Peaches, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer, and DJ – she is also known for as a rapper and an actress. She started out as one-third of the music group, Mermaid Café, in the 1990s.
She released her first solo album, Fancypants Hoodlum, in 1995. She followed it up with The Teaches of Peaches in 2000 and Fatherfucker in 2003. Her songs are known for their take on gender roles and identity. They have been used in films and TV shows such as Mean Girls, Lost in Translation, South Park and True Blood.
Nisker worked with American songstress, Christina Aguilera on her 2010 studio album dubbed, "Bionic".
Achievements
In 2010, she was the recipient of the Independent Music Award for “Electronic Music Artist of the Year”. Her album, The Teaches of Peaches, won the “Heritage Award” at the Polaris Music Prize.
