About Peggy Fleming
The former figure skater won the U.S Championship five consecutive times and was the only American gold medalist in the 1968 France Winter Olympics.
Major Records
She had begun skating by age nine and was coached by Carlo Fassi after former coach William Kipp died in a plane crash in 1961.
She was first in the 1967 North American Championships as well as recorded three consecutive wins in the World Championships – in 1966, 1967 and 1968.
Awards
In 1967, she was ABC’s Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year. She earned the Lombardi Award of Excellence in 2003.
Off-the-Skate Life
In the summer of 1970, the California-born figure skater tied the wedding knot with Greg Jenkins, who is a former figure skater. The marriage produced two children – Todd and Andy.
The couple had supported breast cancer research with profits from their winery. After her breast cancer surgery, she became an activist and advocated for early detection.
Peggy played Judge in the 2007 film “Blades of Glory”. She has had some of her artworks displayed by the Art of Olympians, an organization that works and supports Olympians and sportsmen and sportswomen in general.
