About Per Lindstrand
Per Lindstrand made a name for himself through his record-breaking trans-oceanic flights aboard hot air balloons. The Swedish pilot, aeronautical engineer, entrepreneur and adventurer started out as an engineer in the Swedish Air Force. In the early 1970s, he embarked on his first balloon trip on a self-built balloon as part of a bet. Records he set on a hot air balloon include the world altitude record in 1988 (which was broken in 2005) and the longest flight in lighter-than-air history in 1991. As an entrepreneur, he is known for establishing Lindstrand Balloons Ltd.
Family Life
He was raised in Sweden but he settled in England in 1978 to find a larger market for his hot air balloon business.
Achievements
He is a recipient of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ Lifetime Achievement Award, the Royal Aero Club’s Britannia Trophy and the Harmon Trophy.
Trivia
He also founded Lindstrand Technologies Ltd., a repair and manufacturing aerospace company.
