Pete Wylie, in full Peter James Wylie, is a veteran English songwriter, singer and instrumentalist. He is widely known as the leader and head of the long-running band “Wah!” and all the several variants (Wah! The Mongrel, The Mighty Wah!, JF Wah!, Wah! Heat and Shambeko Say Wah!).
Background
The musician was born and raised in Liverpool, Merseyside, in the United Kingdom. He was a music lover from childhood and learned the guitar very early. By age 20, he had founded the popular English band “Crucial Three” with his friends Ian McCulloch and Julian Cope.
Career Highlights
Despite his hard work of extensive discography and shows throughout the 1980s, most music lovers outside of the United Kingdom only know him as a member of the “Crucial Three” band.
However, beginning in 1979, Wylie and his “Wah!” associates garnered substantial critical acclaim with their albums “Nah=Poo – The Art of Bluff”, “The Maverick Years 1980–81”, “Infamy! or How I Didn’t Get Where I Am Today”, “A Word to the Wise Guy” and “Sinful”.
Unfortunately, a near-fatal car accident in 1991 almost cost his life and career. However, he continues to make music with “Wah!-related materials” releasing recent albums such as “Pete Sounds!”
