About Peter Arnett
For major American news agencies, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Peter Arnett has spent a career reporting on conflicts and global crises. In 1991, Arnett gained recognition for his live television reporting from Baghdad during the first Gulf War, which included him famously interviewing Saddam Hussein, who was the leader of Iraq at the time.
He is also recognized for his international report on the Vietnam War for the Associated Press. His coverage of the conflict lasted 13 years.
Arnett joined CNN in 1981 and began reporting on conflicts and uprisings in various African nations, Central Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Arnett narrated a segment on the joint CNN and Time magazine show NewsStand in 1998 that covered "Operation Tailwind” in 1970.
He was the first reporter from the West to speak with Osama Bin Laden, the father of modern terrorism and leader of Al-Qaeda. In 2003, Arnett traveled to Iraq on assignment for NBC and National Geographic to bring to light the American invasion in the region.

He was married to Nina Nguyen, but the couple separated in 1983.
