About Peter Yarrow
Peter Yarrow’s first public show came in the late 1950s when he was still in college. After graduating, he started performing in clubs before appearing on much bigger platforms like the Newport Folk Festival.
He rose to become one of the most popular American singers during the 1960s as a member of the Peter, Paul and Mary group. The collective is known for their 1963 hit tune "Puff, the Magic Dragon" which he wrote. He helped them to release many albums which include “No Easy Walk To Freedom” and “See What Tomorrow Brings”.
Family
His parents are Bernard Yarrow and Vira Burtakoff. His marriage to Mary Beth McCarthy ended in 1981. He has two kids named Christopher and Bethany.
Education
He has studied in institutions like Odessa University, Columbia University and the University of Kraków.
Recognitions
As a member of Peter, Paul and Mary band, he was elected into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2016, the trio were honored with Songwriters Hall of Fame’s “Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award”.
Trivia
He served three months in jail in 1970.
He helped to establish the anti-bullying organization known as Operation Respect.
