About Phil Gramm
American politician and economist William Philip Gramm is known for his affluence and selflessness. From 1985 to 2002, he represented Texas in the U.S. Senate. Prior to that he served as a US House Representative, representing the 6th district from Texas. The economist switched his allegiance to the Republican Party in1983, although he had begun his political career as a Democrat.
Early Life and Education
The economist and politician was born to Kenneth March Gramm and Florence Scroggins. Gramm enrolled in the Georgia Military Academy and graduated in 1961. His an alumnus of the University of Georgia in 1964. In 1967, he earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business.
Early Career and Politics
Gramm started his career as a teacher of economics at Texas A&M University from 1967 to 1978. He later joined the world of politics and became a Member of the U.S House of Representatives from 1979 to 1983. Two years later, he won a seat in the Senate to represent the US state of Texas.
His time, from 1985 to 2002, in the upper chamber saw him work on many issues, including co-sponsoring the Gramm-Latta Budget in the 1980s and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. He was also Chair of the Senate Banking Committee from 1999 to 2001.
Personal Life
Gramm married Wendy Lee Gramm and has 2 children as of 2021.
