About Philip IV of Spain
Philip IV was named the King of Spain in 1621 after the death of his father Philip III. He faced lots of challenges during his tenure. He was unable to extend the territories of the Kingdom, and also lost some of their foreign powers. His reign was also hindered by the infamous Thirty Years' War, which was fought between 1618 and 1648.
He also ruled the Kingdom of Portugal as Philip III. He would be remembered for his love for arts and his association with renowned artist Diego Velázquez.
Family
His mother was Margaret of Austria. He married Elisabeth of France at the age of ten years and together they had seven kids. He later married Mariana of Austria in 1649. Some of his children were called John Joseph of Austria; Maria Theresa, Queen of France; and Charles II of Spain.
Trivia
He was also referred to as the Planet King.
He was succeeded by Charles II of Spain.
