About Philip Zimbardo
Philip Zimbardo is a psychologist and professor emeritus at Stanford University. He is famous for his 1971 social psychology experiment known as the Stanford Prison Experiment which would later receive criticism on scientific and ethical bases. Before his tenure at Stanford started, he had taught at Yale University, where he also earned both his M.S. and PhD in psychology, and the New York University College of Arts and Science. His notable books include “The Lucifer Effect” and “The Time Paradox”.
Family Life
He was born to Italian immigrants from the island of Sicily. His first wife was American professor of English literature Rose Abdelnour. They had a child together before their 1971 divorce. Since 1972, he has been married to social psychologist and Professor Christina Maslach.
Achievements
He was the recipient of the American Psychological Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal in 2012.
Trivia
He is the founder of the non-profit research organization known as the Heroic Imagination Project.
