Pier Paolo Pasolini was an Italian writer of novels and poetry, film director, playwright, journalist and intellectual. He was notorious for the sexually taboo nature of some of his works (novels and films) and consequently became a controversial figure, even after his death.
He was one of Europe’s leading voices in literature and filmmaking. “Una vita Violenta” and “Ragazzi di vita” are examples of his most significant novels while his notable films include “The 120 Days of Sodom”, “Mamma Roma” and “Accattone”.

His father, Carlo Alberto Pasolini, was a Royal Italian Army lieutenant while his mother, Susanna Colussi worked as a schoolteacher. He had a younger brother named Guidalberto. He openly identified as a gay man.

His films achieved accolades from the Venice Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.
Death
He was killed in Ostia, at a beach on 2 November 1975.
