About Pierre Desproges
Popular French comedian, writer and radio broadcaster Pierre Desproges was known for his sardonic wit. His satirical observations of the world are what best define him, as expressed in this quote: "On peut rire de tout, mais pas avec tout le monde." (You can laugh at anything, but not with anyone).
Background
He started off as a horse racing forecaster for the daily L'Aurore (1970–76). From there, he moved on to work as a reporter for the “Le petit rapporteur” TV program. He began to feature regularly on the comedy show “Le tribunal des flagrants délires” in the 1980s. He created the 1982 series “La minute nécessaire de Monsieur Cyclopède”, which saw him portrayed as an all-knowing professor.
Desproges’ first stand-up performance took place at the Théâtre Fontaine in 1984, and his work "Pierre Desproges se donne en spectacle" premiered at Paris’ Théâtre Grévin in 1986.
Family Life
With his partner Helene, he fathered six children.
Death
The French writer and comedian passed away in 1988, aged 48. The cause of death was lung cancer.
