About Pop Warner
Pop Warner was the pseudonym of American college football coach Glenn Scobey Warner. He is best remembered for his successful handling of several college football teams and for his innovations of some components of the sport. His innovations include the three-point stance, the body blocking techniques and the single and double wing formations. He coached the football teams of Temple University, Stanford, Pittsburgh, Carlisle, Cornell University, Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm and the University of Georgia. The Pop Warner Little Scholars football non-profit, which he contributed to, was named after him.
Family Life
His mother Adaline Scobey was a schoolteacher while his father, William Warner fought in the American Civil War as a cavalry officer. In 1899, he married Tibb Lorraine Smith.
Achievements
He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He received the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award in 1948.
Death
He died from throat cancer on September 7, 1954.
