About Pope Urban VII
In spite of his reign ending over 400 years ago, Pope Urban VII still remains the record holder of the shortest papacy in the history of the Catholic Church.
An accomplished scholar, he received a civil law and canon law doctorate before he was ordained a priest and the Archbishop of Rossano in 1553. From then until his elevation to the cardinalate in 1583, he had occupied positions such as the Governor of Bologna, Umbria and Perugia, Apostolic Nuncio to Spain and member of the Council of Trent.
He served as the Pope for just 12 days: 15 September 1590 to 27 September 1590.

Death
He died of malaria on 27 September 1590.
