About Pretty Boy Floyd
Pretty Boy Floyd was the nickname of Charles Arthur Floyd, an American robber who whose notoriety occurred in the late 1920s and early 1930s and has continued to be popular decades after his death.
Prior to gaining notoriety as a bank robber, he had been in jail for a payroll robbery. After his release, he went on a bank robbery spree in collaboration with criminals in Kansas City.
He also became wanted by the police after he escaped from prison following a bank robbery conviction in 1930. However, it was his alleged involvement in the Kansas City massacre which put him under the FBI’s radar.
Family Life
He was raised in Akins, Oklahoma. He and his wife Ruby Floyd later divorced. He had a son called Charles Dempsey Floyd.
Kansas City Massacre and Death
He was implicated in the gunfight which caused four law enforcement officers to die in the process of escorting Frank Nash, a bank robber. Floyd is believed to have been innocent. He died from gunshot wounds on 22 October 1934 after being pursued by the FBI for months.
