About Pud Galvin

Career
In 1875, Galvin made his debut as a teenager for the “St. Louis Brown Stockings” in the inaugural season of the National Association. The player spent the next six seasons with the “Buffalo Bisons” in the National League and International Association. Then, in August 1880, he made history by becoming the first pitcher in major league history to throw a no-hitter successfully.
He joined the Pittsburgh Alleghenys in 1885 and played with them until 1889. At Alleghenys, he pitched more than 300 innings each season.
Galvin played for the Pittsburgh Burghers in the “Players League” between 1889 and 1890. The St. Louis Browns bought him in 1892, and he retired after that season.
