About Qianlong Emperor
As the favorite grandchild of the famous Kangxi Emperor, it was just a matter of time before the Qianlong Emperor ascended the throne to become the ruler of China’s Qing dynasty. His rule started in 1735 until he vacated the throne in 1796.
After abdicating the position, he was given the powers of a “Retired Emperor”. His administration coincided with the High Qing period, an era where the empire recorded its highest level of prosperity. He also led the empire in a number of battles.
Family
His original name was Hongli. He was one of the children of Yongzheng Emperor, who ruled the empire between 1722 and 1735. His mum was Empress Xiaoshengxian. Empress Xiaoxianchun of the Fuca clan, his first wife, died in 1748. He was also married to the Empress of the Nara clan. He had quite a lot of children including the Jiaqing Emperor, and Yonghuang, Prince Ding'an of the First Rank.
Trivia
Actor Wallace Huo portrayed his character in the 2018 film entitled “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace”.
He prosecuted many Christians during his tenure.
