About Queen Silvia of Sweden
Queen Silvia of Sweden, born Silvia Renate Sommerlath, ascended the throne as the Queen of Sweden in 1976 due to her marriage to King Carl XVI Gustaf. She made history in 2011 when she became the longest-serving queen of the country.
Other works
Aside from her royal duties, Silvia is also admired for her philanthropic works. In 1999, she founded the World Childhood Foundation, an organization which was aimed at supporting children all over the globe.
Before that, she established the Mentor International whose main objective was to protect the youth from using harmful substances. Other organizations that she has worked with include the Global Child Forum, and the Children's Cancer Foundation of Sweden.
Personal Life
She was born to German businessman Walther Sommerlath and his Brazilian wife Alice Soares. She grew up alongside three brothers named Walther, Jörg, and Ralf Sommerlath.
Her three kids with King Carl XVI Gustaf are Princess Madeleine, Crown Princess Victoria, and Prince Carl Philip.
Education
She studied at the Munich School of Interpreting.

Silvia has been honored with many medals including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Royal Order of the Seraphim.
