About Quentin Crisp
Quentin Crisp worked as a model before rising to fame in 1968 with his autobiography titled “The Naked Civil Servant”. The book was adapted into a film in 1975 which starred John Hurt. The English writer followed it up with many interesting books such as “Doing It With Style” and “How to Become a Virgin”.
Acting career
Aside from his literary works, Crisp was also a famous personality in the movie industry. According to records, he made his debut in 1967 and starred in films like “Topsy and Bunker: The Cat Killers” and “The Equalizer”.
Personal Life
He was born Denis Charles Pratt and was the son of Frances Marion Pratt Phillips a governess and her husband Spencer Charles Pratt a solicitor. He was known to be gay, but later described himself as transgender.
Education
He began his education at Kingswood House School and later moved to Denstone College. He joined King's College London in 1926 but left to study at Regent Street Polytechnic.
Death
Crisp suffered from a severe heart attack which caused his death in 1999.
Trivia
Sting’s 1987 song titled "Englishman in New York" was dedicated to him.
