About Rachel Corrie
Rachel Corrie was an American activist who lost her life while protesting injustices perpetrated by the Israeli government against Palestinians in March 2003.
She had taken a trip to Rafah, located in the Gaza Strip in January of that year to enable her fulfil her aim of connecting the city to her own home city, Olympia, Washington, as her final-year college project.
She was also a member of the pro-Palestine International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and had actively been involved in preventing the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) from demolishing houses belonging to Palestinians.
Personal Life
She was the last of the three children of Cindy and Craig Corrie. She studied at Capital High School and proceeded to The Evergreen State College, where she got her start in peace activism.
Death
An IDF soldier manning a bulldozer, who claimed he had not seen her, ran her over on 16 March 2003. She died the same day.
