Ralph Vaughan Williams was a renowned 20th century English composer regarded as one of the most influential British composers of all time. Some of his most notable works include the 1910 concertFantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and the 1930 ballet Job: A Masque for Dancing.
Family Life
He was the son of Margaret and Arthur Vaughan Williams. His first marriage was to Adeline Fisher. The marriage lasted from 1897 until Adeline’s death in 1951. He got married to his second wife Ursula in 1953 and remained married to her until his death in 1958.
Trivia
He was once offered a knighthood but turned it down. He however, accepted an Order of Merit (O.M.) in 1935 for his remarkable services to music.
Upon his death, his ashes were interred in Westminster Abbey.
The legendary naturalist and geologist Charles Darwin was his great-uncle.
