About Ralph Waite
Ralph Waite had already been ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church for a few years before he realised that he rather wanted to pursue a career in acting. He began by working in theatre in the early 1960s before making on-screen appearances.
Waite is best remembered for his portrayal of John Walton Sr. in the drama television series, “The Waltons”.
His other memorable roles on television include the recurring characters of Jackson Gibbs in “NCIS” and Hank Booth in “Bones”.
Personal Life
He grew up as the first of the five children of Esther Mitchell and Ralph H. Waite. He is an alumnus of the Yale Divinity School.
His first marriage produced three children. He married two more times. He was the stepfather of actor Liam Waite.
Political Career
He made three unsuccessful attempts between 1990 and 1998 to go to the US House of Representatives.
Death
He died at 85 on 13 February 2014.
