Ray Charles was an American singer, pianist and songwriter. He recorded more than 50 studio albums.
His nickname was "The Genius". He combined r'n'b, soul, jazz, blues, gospel and pop elements in his music. Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones and Billy Joel have been among his biggest fans. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at No 2 on their list with the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", as well as at No 10 on their list with the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
He won 11 Grammy Awards in his career and he was nominated for 5 Emmy Awards.
His Personal Life
He became completely blind by the age of 7 as a result of glaucoma. He was married twice and had 12 children with 10 different women. He suffered for many years from drug abuse.
