About Ray Nitschke
During his playing days, Ray Nitschke was deployed as a middle linebacker. He starred in his first NFL game in 1958 for the Green Bay Packers. He featured for the team for one and a half decades in which he won the NFL championship five times. He also led the Packers to two Super Bowl trophies.
Family
He was one of the children of Anna and Robert Nitschke. He lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his brothers Richard and Robert Jr. He was married to Jackie Forchette.
Education
Nitschke attended Proviso Township High School and continued at the University of Illinois where he was under a scholarship.
Recognitions
In 1978, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s also a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. He featured in the 1964 edition of the Pro Bowl.
Trivia
The Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge, which is located in Green Bay, was named after him.
The Packers have also retired the number 66 shirt in his honor.
