This Dallas-born actress and playwright is known to fans for her portrayal of Lilly Harper on the early 1990s NBC series “I'll Fly Away”. Regina Taylor was the first black woman to play Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet” on Broadway.
Acting Career
Taylor made her screen debut in the CBS movie “Crisis at Central High” while studying at Southern Methodist University. She went on to star alongside veteran American actor Morgan Freeman in the 1989 film “Lean on Me”. She worked with Spike Lee on social dramas such as “Losing Isaiah”, “Clockers”, “Spirit Lost”, and “The Negotiator”. In 2022, she played Marian Shields Robinson in the television series, “The First Lady”.
Playwright
This Golden Globe winner is an accomplished playwright. Her play “Crowns” received four Washington D.C. Helen Hayes awards including Best Director. She is also a Distinguished Artistic Associate of Chicago's Goodman Theatre and her play “Magnolia” premiered at the theatre in 2009.

Taylor married Michael Schurian in 1982.
