About René Goscinny
René Goscinny was a famous French writer and editor. His works began to flourish in 1948 when he was working at Kunen Publishers as the art director. During his time at the company, he wrote a number of children’s books which caught the attention of many writers and artists including Joseph Gillain.
Goscinny was best known as the co-creator of “The Adventures of Asterix” book series alongside Albert Uderzo, a famous French illustrator. Some of his most popular works were titled “Le Petit Nicolas” and “Iznogoud”.
Family
He was born to Anna Bereśniak-Gościnna and her spouse Stanisław Simkha Gościnny, who worked as an engineer. The writer had a brother named Claude. His marriage to Gilberte Pollaro-Millo produced a daughter who was christened Anne Goscinny. She followed in the footsteps of her father.
Awards
He won an Adamson Award in 1974 and became a member of the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2005.
Trivia
In 1996, the René Goscinny Award was established to honor young French comic writers.
It was revealed in 2017 that his works have been translated over 2,000 times which made him one of the world’s most-translated authors.
He collaborated with many authors including Maurice De Bevere (Morris), and Jean-Jacques Sempé.
