About Rex Stout
Rex Stout is globally known as the creator of the fiction characters Archie Goodwin and Nero Wolfe. The American writer won the hearts of readers with his numerous detective fictions. He started his writing career as a contributor to the All-Story Magazine in the 1910s.
His first recognized work was the 1934 “Fer-de-Lance” which featured the Nero Wolfe character for the first time. In 1960, he published a series of Nero Wolfe novellas which were collectively titled “Three at Wolfe's Door”.
Family
The writer spent his childhood with his parents Lucetta Elizabeth Todhunter Stout and John Wallace Stout. He was the brother of fellow writer Ruth Stout. In 1932, his first marriage to Fay Kennedy came to an end. Later that year, he became the husband of designer Pola Weinbach Hoffmann.
Education
Before joining the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Stout studied at Topeka High School in Kansas.
Awards
He won the Crime Writers Association’s “Silver Dagger Award” in 1969. He has been a member of the New York State Writers Hall of Fame since 2014.
Trivia
He was elected as the Mystery Writers of America’s president in 1958.
By age four, he had read the whole Bible twice.
He also won a spelling bee competition at the age of 13 years.
