About Ricardo Arona
Ricardo Arona, nicknamed “Brazilian Tiger”, is a former renowned Brazilian mixed martial artist and fighter. His professional career spanned between 2000 and 2009, in which he competed in the “RINGS” championship and the “PRIDE Fighting Championships”. Additionally, he was part of the Brazilian Top Team (BTT).
Background & Early Career
He is a native of Niteroi, Brazil. Arona began to develop an interest in mixed martial arts at age 13 after watching a “Vale Tudo” fight in his hometown. He then started to train in karate, judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
At age 16 in 1994, he became the “BJJ” national champion of Brazil and obtained a “Purple Belt”. He began to train under the famous Carlson Gracie in 1996 and went on to win many titles.
Career Highlights and Achievements
In 1998, he won the “World Jiu-Jitsu Championship (88kg-Blue)”. Additionally, he was the 1999 champion of the “World Jiu-Jitsu (94kg-Brown)”.
He is a previous “RINGS” middleweight-Champion, the 2001 winner of the “RINGS Middleweight Championship Tournament” and the 2005 runner-up of “PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix”. In addition, he is a four-time “ADCC” Titleholder and holds a 13–0 undefeated record in submission wrestling, never losing a point in a contest.
Arona is a member of the ADCC Hall of Fame.
