Career
Berry became a member of the Flairs’, an American doo-wop group in 1953 and featured on the bass vocals of their 1953 release “She Wants to Rock”.
He left The Flairs’ and formed his own band known as the Pharaohs. He also played with music groups such as Rick Rillera and the Rhythm Rockers and wrote his hit song “Louie Louie '' in 1955 which was released with the Pharaohs on Flip Records in 1957. The song was adopted by many R&B groups and it became a major hit.
He later released “Have Love, Will Travel”, “Crazy Lover” (which was recorded by the Rollins Band) and “Oh! Oh! Get Out of the Car” in the early 1960s. American record label Rhino released “The Best of Louie, Louie” a compilation album in 1983.
Death
He died on January 23, 1997 from heart failure.
