Background
Eberhart was a student at the University of Minnesota when he lost his mother. His mother’s death urged him to turn to poetry. He published his first book on poetry in 1930 called “A Bravery of Earth” and later published “Reading the Spirit.” He taught briefly before enlisting in the US Navy during World War II.
Literary Works
Some of Eberhart’s notable works include “Poems: New and Selected”, as well as “Brotherhood of Men”, “Undercliff: Poems 1946-1953”, and “The Quarry: New Poems.” He also taught English at Dartmouth University for 30 years.
Awards & Accomplishments
In 1959, Eberhart joined the Advisory Committee on the Arts for the National Cultural Centre. He founded the Poets’ Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He won many awards, including the 1962 Bollingen Prize and the Shelley Memorial Award.
