About Richard Wilbur
In 1987, Richard Wilbur was named the United States Poet Laureate, becoming the second person to hold that position. He started his literary works when he was eight years old. It was during that period that his maiden poem was published in John Martin's Magazine.
He launched his first book in 1947 which was under the title “The Beautiful Changes and Other Poems”. In 1956, the American poet published arguably his most popular work titled “Things of This World”.
Private Life
The award-winning poet was married to Mary Charlotte Hayes Ward. The couple was blessed with four children named Aaron, Christopher, Ellen, and Nathan Wilbur.
Major Accolades
Wilbur won his second Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1989. He also received the Robert Frost Medal in 1996.
Education
He joined Harvard University after completing Amherst College.
