About Richey Edwards
Richey James Edwards, often called “Richey Manic,” was a famous Welsh musician and guitarist in the mid to late 20th century. Edwards was widely known for his role as the rhythm guitarist and lyricist of the Welsh rock band “Manic Street Preachers.”
Background & Education
He was an indigene of Blackwood, Wales. He attended the Oakdale Comprehensive School. In 1989, Edwards graduated from the University of Wales, Swansea, with a “2:1” political history degree.
Career Highlights
After the “Manic Street Preachers” band was formed in 1986, he was the band’s driver until 1989, when he was accepted as the fourth member and spokesperson for the band. Initially, he had low musical talent, so he only contributed to the group’s designs lyrics and often mimed playing the bass guitar during live performances. However, after gaining experience, he became the group’s guitarist and primary lyricist.
He contributed to over 50% of the lyrics of several albums of “Manic Street Preachers,” including “Journal for Plague Lovers,” “The Holy Bible,” and “Everything Must Go.”
Personal life & Disappearance
He suffered severe depression, insomnia, and alcoholism. In addition, Edward self-harmed, mainly by cutting his arms with a razor blade and stubbing smoking cigarettes in his body.
He disappeared on February 1, 1995. After several investigations to find him proved futile, he was declared “Presumed Dead” on November 24, 2008.
