About Rick Barry
Rick Barry is a former American basketball star and was a phenomenal player during the mid to late 20th Century. He starred in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the American Basketball Association (ABA) for over 20 years.
Early life & Education
He was raised in Roselle Park, New Jersey. He attended Roselle Park High School and later enrolled at the University of Miami. Unfortunately, since the Hurricanes’ basketball program was on probation in his final year, he did not make the NCAA tournament as a senior.
The San Francisco Warriors picked him during the 1965 NBA draft.
Career Highlights
He played for the San Francisco Warriors in the NBA for two seasons (1965-67).
In 1968, he joined the Oakland Oaks in the ABA for a record $ 500,000 contract. Still in the ABA, he played for the Brooklyn Nets from 1970 to 1972.
In October 1972, he returned to the NBA and played for the Golden State Warriors. He moved to the Houston Rockets in 1978 and remained there until his retirement in 1980.
Record
As of 2021, Barry was the only player to score 50 points in Game 7 of the ABA and NBA playoffs.

His sons (Jon Barry, Brent Barry, Drew Barry, Scooter Barry) are retired, professional basketball players.
