About Rico Gear
Though he had most of his best performances at the right wing, Rico Gear was also deployed as a fullback or a midfielder. The New Zealand rugby star played his first provincial game in 1997 as a member of Poverty Bay.
Two years later, he starred in his first Super 12 game with the Auckland Blues. The Gisborne-born rugby player went on to have a successful career with teams such as the Crusaders, Blues, and the Worcester Warriors in England before announcing his retirement in 2021.
International Career
After making his All Blacks debut in 1998, Gear was considered as one of Australia’s most promising right wingers. That same year, he helped his country to win gold at the Commonwealth Games which was held in Malaysia.
Family
His younger brother is Hosea Gear, a rugby player who has featured for the All Blacks on many occasions. With Rebecca Miles, he has two kids named Ava and Isaiah.
Education
Gear played rugby during his days at Gisborne Boys' High School.
Facts
He was selected for the second season of the show “Match Fit”.
He played over 15 tests for the New Zealand national team in which he recorded 11 tries.
