About Rinko Kikuchi
Rinko Kikuchi is a Japanese actress who has become known to international audiences due to some of the films she has starred in.
Seven years after her 1999 debut as an actress, she came to international prominence through her portrayal of Chieko Wataya, a deaf teenager, in the internationally-co-produced film, “Babel” in 2006.
She is also known for her performances in the films “Pacific Rim” as Mako Mori and “Norwegian Wood” as Naoko.
Family Life
She was born Yuriko Kikuchi and was raised alongside two elder siblings. She has been married to fellow Japanese actor, Shota Sometani since December 2014. They welcomed a daughter in 2016.
Achievements
For starring in “Babel”, she received an Oscar nomination and won awards from the Austin Film Critics Awards, National Board of Review Awards, amongst others.
Trivia
In 2018, she appeared in the American television series, “Westworld” as Akane.
