About Robert Adler
Robert Adler was best known for his works with Zenith Electronics. With the company, he contributed to the development of the cordless remote control. Though he isn’t the originator of the device, the American inventor has been credited for introducing one of the first sound-based remote systems for televisions.His first device was known as the "Space Commander". He went on to improve the device which would later transmit via ultrasonic signals. Before ending his career, he served as the Director of Research and Vice President of Zenith Electronics. He held patents on many devices including the touch-screen technology.
Family
He was the son of Max Adler and his wife Jenny Herzmark.
Education
In 1937, he completed his Ph.D. program at the University of Vienna.
Honors
He received the Edison Medal in 1980. He shared his 1997 Emmy Award with American engineer Eugene Polley.
Trivia
Before migrating to the United States, he spent some time in England and Belgium.
He joined Zenith Electronics in 1941.
