About Robert Boyle
Widely considered to be the father of modern chemistry, Robert Boyle is credited with spearheading the modern scientific method of conducting experiments. The Irish natural philosopher, chemist, physicist and inventor is famous today for the experimental gas law named after him – which is known as Boyle’s law. He also authored “The Sceptical Chymist”, a book which was a bedrock of chemistry as a field.
Personal Life
He was born to the Earl and Countess of Cork, Richard Boyle and Catherine Fenton. He had thirteen older siblings. He studied in England at the Eton College from age eight until he was 17.
Theological Work
Besides his work on natural philosophy and chemistry, Boyle, a devout Anglican, also dedicated his time and resources to theological interests such as donating to missionary societies and paying for the translations of the Bible.
Death
He died on 31 December 1691 at 64 years old.
