About Robert Cray
American blues guitarist and singer Robert Cray is known to be one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. He has performed with BB King, Eric Clapton and Muddy Waters and is a multiple Grammy Award winner.
His Background
The guitarist hails from Columbus, Georgia. He attended Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia; and when his family moved to settle in Washington, he went to the Lakes High School in Lakewood, Washington.
His Profession
His musical career began in high school when played in his first band, The One-Way Street. The successful singer formed the Robert Cray band in the 1970s. He released his first album in 1980 titled “Who’s Been Talkin” on Tomato Records. His second and third albums “Bad Influence” and “False Accusation” were released in the mid-1980s. The blues songwriter performed with John Lee Hooker in the 1990s on his album “Boom Boom” and was again featured on his “Healer” album.
As of 2021, Cray is still active on the music scene and goes on tours.
His Awards
He has a Grammy Award for his fourth album “Strong Persuader”.
The Columbus-born musician was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.
In 2017 he received the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance.
