About Robert Hanssen
Robert Hanssen was an American former FBI agent who gained notoriety in the United States after he was arrested for spying for the Soviet Union and later the Russian Federation against the United States between 1979 and 2001. He was charged with espionage and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
Family Life
He was the son of Vivian and Howard Hanssen. In 1968, he married Bernadette Hanssen, with whom he fathered six children.
Trivia
For his espionage activities, he reportedly received diamonds and at least US$1.4 million in cash from the Soviet Union and later the Russian Federation.
He escaped the death penalty through a plea bargain with prosecutors.
