Robert Menzies holds the record as the longest-serving Australian prime minister, having occupied the office for a total of eighteen years (1939-1941 and 1949-1966). He practiced in Melbourne as a top lawyer before beginning a career in politics.
In his early career, he took membership positions in the Parliament of Victoria, including as the Attorney-General and the Deputy Premier. From 1934 to 1966, he was a Member of Parliament for Kooyong. He is also remembered for his contributions to the establishment of the Liberal Party of Australia, for which he served as the first leader from 1945 to 1966.

His father, James Menzie was a businessman and politician in Victoria. His mother’s name was Kate. He grew up in Jeparit, Victoria along with four siblings. He was married to Pattie Leckie with whom he had four children (one died at birth).
