About Robert Moog
Robert Arthur Moog was a renowned American electronic music pioneer and an engineering physicist. Moog founded the famous Moog Music, invented the first commercial synthesizer in 1964.
Early life and Educational Background
Moog had a very fulfilling childhood in the upstate of Queen since he was born into an upper middle-class family. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science in 1952 and developed a fascination for electronic instruments. Robert attained a degree in physics and a masters in electrical engineering at Queens College and Columbia University, respectively. He then had his Ph.D. in engineering physics at Cornell University.
Career Highlights
Moog, with his brilliance, produced his Theremin design in 1953. He created the Moog synthesizer, a more compact music instrument that was much cheaper than its competitors. He sold Moog Music in 1977 due to the company's decline but created a new company in 2002.
Moog was also a devoted teacher at the University of North Carolina
Personal Life and Death
The renowned musician married Shirleigh Moog in 1958 but divorced in 1994. By Shirleigh, he had four children – one son and three daughters.
Robert Moog died in 2005 due to a brain tumor. He was 71. He was survived by his four children and five grandchildren.

Moog was awarded the lifetime achievement award in 1970
Robert was awarded the Polar music prize in 2001
Moog was inducted into the national Investors Hall of Fame in 2013.
