Robert Norton Noyce was a physicist and co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel Corporation. He became famous for having invented the microchip (also known as monolithic integrated circuit) which revolutionized the manufacturing of home computers.
Family Life
He was born to Harriet May Norton and Rev. Ralph Brewster Noyce as the third of their four sons. His brothers’ names were Gaylord, Donald and Ralph.
He was first married to Elizabeth Bottomley, with whom he had 4 children, from 1953 to 1974. His second wife was Ann Schmeltz Bowers, a former Intel Corporation Director of Personnel.
Achievements
Before his death, he became a ‘U.S. Business Hall of Fame’ inductee and received the ‘National Medal of Technology’. He was also honored with the ‘Faraday Medal’ and ‘John Fritz Medal’.
Death
He was 62 when he passed away on 3 June 1990 from a heart attack.
