Family Life
He was the last of the five children of Johanna and August Schumann. In 1840, he and Clara Schumann tied the knot. Their marriage produced eight children.
Trivia
He battled all his life with mental illness.
In 1854, he tried committing suicide by jumping from a bridge into a river but was saved before he could drown. After this unsuccessful suicide attempt, he requested that he be sent to a mental hospital.
