About Robert Yerkes
The contributions of the American psychologist and ethologist in the field of intelligence testing and comparative psychology cannot be over emphasised. He collaborated with John Dodson to observe Chimpanzee behaviour and established the Yerkes -Dodson Law.
Background
He was born in Pennsylvania and graduated at Harvard. He served as a professor of psychology at Harvard and Yale. He set up the Yale Laboratories of Primate Biology and served as its director until 1941.
Major Works
He studied the similarities and dissimilarities in intelligence and behavior between primates.
He also developed the Army Alpha and Beta tests to enable the Army assign specific tasks to the most suitable men.
Legacy
The Robert M. Yerkes Award was named in his honor. It is to be given in recognition of contributions by non-psychologists to military psychology.
