About Roberto Bolaño
Described by the New York Times as one of the greatest Latin American writers of all-time, Roberto Bolaño began his career as a journalist when he moved to Mexico in 1968. Led by his love for poetry, the Chilean writer, together with other poets, formed the poetic movement known as Infrarealism.
He was also admired for his novels and short stories. In 1998, he published one of his most popular books titled “The Savage Detectives” which earned him a Rómulo Gallegos Prize. Some of his well-known literary works were titled “2666” and “The Skating Rink”.
Family
He was raised by his parents alongside a sister. He left behind two children.
Recognitions
He was posthumously given the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2008.
Death
Bolaño was unable to recover from a liver failure condition and died in 2003 after spending some days in the hospital.
Trivia
In 1994, he published a poem collection titled “The Romantic Dogs”.
At age ten, he worked as a bus ticket vendor.
