About Roberto Rossellini
Roberto Rossellini was exposed to movies at an early age after his dad granted him entry into his cinema. After gaining some experience, he published his first work in 1937, a documentary titled “Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune”.
He spent over four decades in the movie industry through which he worked on many films. Some of his popular works were the “Rome, Open City” trilogy and “The Taking of Power by Louis XIV”.
Family
His father, Angiolo Giuseppe Rossellini, was the first person to own a cinema in the city of Rome. He was also the son of Elettra Bellan, and the brother of Italian composer Renzo Rossellini.
His marriage to his third wife, Ingrid Bergman, produced movie actress Isabella Rossellini. Renzo Rossellini, his son, is the product of his marriage to Marcella De Marchis. At a stage in his life he was married to Assia Noris, and Sonali Senroy Das Gupta.
Trivia
He inspired Martin Scorsese’s 1999 documentary entitled “My Voyage to Italy”.
He once lectured at Yale University.
