About Rod Gilbert
Rod Gilbert began his ice hockey career in 1957 as a member of the Canadian juvenile side known as Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters. After three years with the team, he was signed by the New York Rangers in the famous National Hockey League.
Mostly used as a right winger, Gilbert spent his entire NHL career with the Rangers. He, alongside Jean Ratelle and Vic Hadfield, formed a formidable GAG line for the team.
After retirement
The Canadian hockey star announced his retirement in 1978. He went on to work for Fundamental Brokers before being named as the director of community relations and special projects for the Rangers franchise.
He also owned a restaurant in Manhattan named 'Gilbert's'.

Honors
In 1982, he became a Hockey Hall of Famer. Six years before that, he received the Bill Masterton Trophy for his dedication and sportsmanship. He was a recipient of the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1991.
In 2010, he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The Rangers have also retired the number 7 jersey in his honor.
