About Rodger Bumpass
Rodger Bumpass is probably best known for voicing one of television’s favorite characters, Squidward Tentacles on the animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants.” He has also lent his voice to other animations, such as “Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?” and “The Kids from Room 402.”
Early Years
Bumpass was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Little Rock Central High School, where he was introduced to theatre and then majored in radio at Arkansas State University. After graduating, he moved to New York to pursue a theatre career.
Squidward Tentacles and Other Career Highlights
In 1977, he scored a role in the comedy roadshow “That’s Not Funny, That’s Sick” and also appeared in “Disco Beaver from Outer Space. Despite finding some success, it was his role as the voice for Squidward Tentacles on “SpongeBob SquarePants” that brought him much fame, as well as a Daytime Emmy Award.
Controversies
Bumpass was arrested in 2015 for driving under the influence in California. Fortunately, he retained his role as Squidward on the critically acclaimed show.
