About Roger Avary
Roger Avary is a renowned Canadian-American film and TV director, producer and screenwriter. The veteran film producer is best known for his works on the 1994 American film “Pulp Fiction” and his uniquely dark comedic style in film directing and screenwriting.
He was born in Flin Flon, Canada. In 1984, at age 19, he wrote and directed “The Worm Turns” – his short film which earned the Best Film accolade for the 16-19 age category at the “LAFTA Teen Film Expo.”
Between 1986 and 1993, he collaborated with famous filmmaker Quentin Tarantino in writing, directing and producing several films. Ultimately, his collaboration with Tarantino won them the 1995 Academy award for “Best Original Screenplay” for their works on the famous movie “Pulp Fiction”.
In 2002, he directed the black comedy-drama “The Rules of Attraction.” The movie was the first studio film edited on the Apple “Final Cut Pro” editing system. He subsequently became an ambassador for the Final Cut Pro product and appeared in several Apple web and print ads globally.
He is notable for directing “Lucky Day”, “Killing Zoe” and writing the screenplays of “Beowulf” and “Silent Hill”.
The film producer was charged with vehicular manslaughter and two felony charges of inflicting bodily injury while drunk in December 2008. He was then convicted to one year of work furlough and five years of probation on September 29, 2009.
