Early Life
Herzog was born in Germany to a protestant family that took his education seriously. Despite many challenges, he was aided to enroll in the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he studied law and later graduated and became a professor in 1964. He remained in the university, teaching until 1966.
Career
The political career of the young politician began in 1973 when he joined the Christian Democratic Union and became a representative of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1973. Herzog later rose to greater heights as he became the Vice-president of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany from 1983 to 1987. He also became the president of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany from 1987 to 1994 and then finally became the president of Germany from 1994 to 1999.
Personal life
The former president was married to Christine Krauß in 1958 and later remarried Alexandra Freifrau von Berlichingen in 2001.
